After three-year delay, Kerala finally inks Smart City lease


The Peninsula On-line: Qatar's leading English Daily: "Kochi • Kerala yesterday logged on to the seamless IT and IT-enabled services growth here yesterday, joining hands with Dubai-based Technology and Media Free Zone Authority to set up SmartCity, an integrated township for knowledge-based industries. Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan switched on an acrylic display, marking the stone-laying for the $350m Smart City with a built-up 8.8m sq feet on a land stretch of 1.07m sq metres. Witnessing the event were Smart City executive director Fareed Abdul Rahman and director (marketing) Jazia Mohammed and Kerala Ministers S Sarma, C Divakaran, Mons Joseph and N K Premachandran However, the absence of Tecom Investments chairman, Ahmad Bin Byat, who also chairs SmartCity, and Kerala Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, dampened the show."
