New Delhi, Tuesday, February 21, 2012: Italian authorities on Tuesday filed a petition demanding the cancellation of the FIR registered against two Italian naval guards who were charged with the killing of two Indian fishermen off Kerala coast.
The petition points out that Indian laws are not applicable as the incident happened in international waters.
The Italian foreign ministry also demanded a discussion of the issue at the government level. It accused the Kerala police of acting in arbitrary manner and that the action is not acceptable.
A statement released by the Italian foreign ministry also said that the incident took place along the international shipping channel and there for only international laws would be applicable.
